In the beginning corporate communication used to focus their attention on giving information rather than receiving. Depending on the size and purpose of an company, a blog can come in handy. The blog could be updated from a department or all employees within the company, or by hiring someone outside of the company to run the blog.

Advantages:

  • a way to promote an organization and its work
  • provides information in another form
  • better communication with consumers and less formal
  • broadens audience

The few disadvantages include: too much information at once and if the blog is not done well it it can hurt the company.

Companies like Google, Starbucks,and Apple have corporate blogs to reach out to their audiences (current and future consumers) about their company and their new products. At times I feel like corporate blogs can be overwhelming, but it’s the new trend in our information society, and a good way to get a feel of the company.
